ShortStops

As a short story writer and lover, I was delighted to hear from writer Tania Hershman and her new initiative ShortStops,  here's what she had to say....

'I was fed up with the myth of the poor, beleaguered short story when I know just how much short story activity, how much short story excitement and how much short story talent there is in the UK & Ireland. So I decided to give the short story a little razzle dazzle of its own by putting it all in one place!'

So, for a list of literary magazines that publish short stories, events where short stories are read, or to sign up for a newsletter click Here

Hello Niamh:

Author Nancy Christie is on the same page with you. She has designated December 21st as Celebrate Short Fiction Day. As Nancy says, ""December 21 marks both the start of winter and the shortest day of the year. So, why not take advantage of the long winter night to curl up with a good short story?" She also invites everyone to share who their favorite short story writers are.

Here's a link to a piece about it that I wrote and which Newsday in the States picked up: http://tinyurl.com/mzdcx4f.

Or, check out Nancy's site about it at http://www.nancychristie.com/findingfran/2013/12/whos-your-favorite-short-story-writer/

It's the dawn of a new Golden Age for the short story. And agree with you and with Nancy that people are going to be reading more and more short fiction. And that's going to be a great opportunity for both readers and publishers.
